Goldman Sachs' Senior European Economist, Ben Broadbent, is decamping to the other side; he's just been appointed to the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee, Automated Trader reports.
He's replacing economist Andrew Sentance, who will step down in May.
Broadbent's first appearance will be the June Monetary Policy Committee meeting.
He was made a partner at Goldman in 2006 and is a managing director at the bank.
"His broad professional experience in the financial sector and academia, as well as his detailed knowledge of the U.K. economy, will be extremely valuable to the committee,” the Treasury said about Broadbent today.
Broadbent has previously worked at the Treasury and the Bank of England. He earned a PhD in Economics from Harvard in '95.
When Sentance announced his departure from the central bank, rumors flew that his seat on the Monetary Policy Committee would be filled by a woman, because the BOE is the only major central bank without a female policy maker. In today's statement, however, the treasury said only one of 27 applications for the job was from a woman.
