Chevy Volt Launches in Europe

The Chevy Volt has been one of the most-anticipated EVs due to its design and technology. The Volt got a US release late 2010 with a $42,000 price. Now, the Volt is seeing a European debut.

The Chevy Volt is officially launching in Europe, hitting Germany as its first market. European customers get the same 100,000 mile or 8-year warranty on the Volt’s powertrain and battery, which is said to be among the most comprehensive EV warranties around. European Volts also come standard with leather seats (an option in the US markets).

The Volt has a range of about 80 to 100 miles per charge, and this is extended when the gasoline motor kicks in to charge the batteries, therefore extending the range to a total of 375 miles.

Environmentalists and EV fans might be in for a surprise, though. The European launch of the Volt will be priced a bit steep, at 41,950 euro, including taxes. The same price applies when the Volt hits other EU nations. That’s equivalent to about $58,500. Note that in the US, the Volt qualifies for a federal tax incentive, with a discount of $7,500.
